Taipei Tournament, June 7-8, 2003

By Terry Hon

I must say that I had more fun at this Taipei Tournament than any in a long time. With torrent rains this weekend, the fields were just right for some great ultimate. Everyone got pretty much soaked except for Kuku baby in her cute little yellow rain suit.

Well, we started the day with a pretty easy game against the Young Eagles (which I must point out there was a 4 point run by the women Sunny, me, Steffi and then Sunny again). I had to say that because the Young Eagles love to poach off of the women players. Next time I hope they learned their lesson. I think the final score was 11-3. Afterwards we were scheduled to play LiMing. But since 1/3 of the LiMing team was injured, we split into 2 teams and played 2 fun hard games against one another.

On Sunday, the Old Eagles and Kaohsiung were both gunning to beat us. After their game against one another on Sunday where the Old Eagles surprisingly beat Kaohsiung, the Old Eagles were all revved up to go. They started out fast, scoring the first 2 goals but we got back into our rhythm and ran up 10-6. But then the Old Eagles came back fast scoring the next 3 points until we finally scored the last point to win 11-9. Our last game against Kaohsiung was even better where Kaohsiung tried out their zone to force turnovers and score on the transition. They were up 6-10 and only had to score one more point to win. Renegade got pumped up, played a beautiful zone O, straight up D, and dug in deep to score the next 6 points to win 12-10. What a game and what fun!
